Disciplines 101 Seminar #10

“Storm Impacts and Development – Part I: Geomorphology”

Eli Lazarus (Geomorphology, University of Southampton) and Evan Goldstein (Geomorphology, UNC Greensboro)

“Storm Impacts and Development – Part II: Engineering”

Katherine Anarde (Coastal Engineering, UNC Chapel Hill/NCSU)

In Part I, Eli Lazarus and Evan Goldstein discuss questions that geomorphologists may ask surrounding the topic of storm impacts and development. For example, “Where does sand go during island overwash? How can we track the cool patterns it makes?”

Katherine Anarde then covers the same topic, but from the perspective of a coastal engineer. She asks questions such as “How were bridges and roadways damaged? Can we predict their vulnerability to future storm impacts?”
